A less eventful night, a less eventful day.
Last night went pretty well. At one point we went nearly five hours without interruption … aside from the IV fluids running out. After 30 minutes of silencing the beeping and when no one came (yes, we called the nurses twice), I just turned it off. Don’t stress out, it was only saline and Justin has been drinking plenty on his own. Everything was reconstituted in the morning.
Justin slept most of the morning too, as the current drug combo lends itself to such. I think he would have slept more, but his hemoglobin had dropped to 6.4 overnight so a transfusion was in order. If he hadn’t have shown up to this shindig already anemic, I might have panicked, but the drop we saw was somewhat expected considering the extent of the surgery. After the transfusion, he was already reading higher than when he walked in the door. Good deal!
A nurse from physical therapy stopped by and gave him a rundown on his new neck brace. We also had a couple of lovely, lovely visitors, watched a few movies, and Justin ate three very healthy meals. I actually think he’ll gain weight before discharge. <fingers crossed> The surgeon’s PA stopped by, as well. She was still a little uncomfortable with the volume of output from Justin’s drains. Hmmm, I don’t know. She was talking all “get them both out in a couple of days.” A couple of days? Ugh.
Overall, today looked much better than yesterday and I praise God for that! It’s so hard to watch him suffer, especially after all he has been through. I pray tomorrow will be even better.
I hope everyone is having an enjoyable weekend. Good night, Christina
Hoping each day gets a bit better . Lots of love to you.
